Ok, guys. I’m sorry, but I really have to get this off my chest.
I think I’ve realized what the worst fandom is.
These people in my class every morning, complaining about what happened last night in this and that.

There we go. I’ve continued the sassy coming out ace card to extend to more orientations. These are intended as a joke, but they might actually come in handy if you’re being questioned about your orientation and you need a sassy retort.

I’ve got a lot of Hetalia on my dash lately, and let me just say that everyone in this fandom just needs to take a chill pill and realize that everyone likes different things. I mean, people, that’s one of the beautiful things about this fandom!

I hate this joke too along with all the other overdone insulting tropes in this fandom. Things like rapist France, weepy/drunk England, and loud/stupid/obnoxious America (okay, loud I can handle. He is pretty loud most of the time).
But of course, these tropes don’t exist for no reason. Unfortunately, they come from Studio Deen (and general fandom idiots) latching on to and over-doing things Himaruya drew/wrote before —in my opinion— he really knew his own characters. And think about it. How many of you are authors or RPers who realized that your characters get away from you sometimes? Both J.K. Rowling and Stephenie Meyer have referred to not knowing certain things about their characters because the character hasn’t “told them” yet. Characters grow and develop and become very different from the people you start out with. And I think that happened to Himaruya too.
The “Spain is a pedophile” thing comes from a very very early deleted strip in which Spain and France (who are like 13 at the time and clearly in that confused hormonal period of life) are sitting with Chibitalia and Spain flips up his dress and remarks to France “wouldn’t it probably feel good if you put your thing right there?” At the end of the strip, the caption reads “Big brother didn’t do it!!!” Some people interpret this to mean that France, who always calls himself “big brother” didn’t do it, but Spain did. Which is idiotic, because, excuse me, but Italy calls him “Big brother Spain” and is almost always seen being affectionate and trusting, even in his adult years, and I don’t know about you, but if Spain had raped him as a child, I’m pretty sure Italy would be scared of him. Not to mention that the strip was deleted (though it’s still available on the internet if you search hard enough), which I take as Hima removing it from the canon, even though it clearly says nothing happened, but it removes the entire incident altogether.
And while we’re on the subject, can we talk about France? And his “rapist” reputation? You’ve all seen the “Love should never be forced on anyone” gif, but let’s admit, he has plenty of incidents where he gropes/strips people against their will. But once again, it doesn’t happen all that often in the grand scheme of all the strips. Studio Deen animated almost every incidence of France groping/stripping/making a perverted comment that Hima ever drew, and added a few of their own. When was the last time France groped/stripped someone in comic/manga canon? Like, Halloween/Christmas 2010? Or maybe it was April Fools 2011. I honestly can’t remember. But I do know that in Hima’s most recent blog updates (though they are quite old now, *sob*), France is drawn beautifully, just like everyone else, and in the recent scanlations from the published manga, oh my goodness, he just keeps getting prettier, and his personality seems to match! His hair, his smile, and his interactions with his people, they’re just absolutely wonderful. France loves sex, but he loves love more, and I think he honestly just wants everyone to be happy and find love, and if he wants to grope England’s ass once to rile him up and get a laugh, I’m pretty sure England (who, by the way, is his friend, and how many of you have jokingly grabbed your friends before) will just beat him over the head a few times and move on with his life. (And if someone ever did feel violated by France’s groping, I’m pretty sure he would apologize profusely and never touch them again.)
England wouldn’t have dominated half the globe as a weepy girly drunk, America wouldn’t be so powerful if he were an idiot, and come on guys, Canada isn’t actually invisible and doesn’t stutter on every word. He’s just a little soft-spoken and doesn’t make a big fuss in the world, but is loved by his friends and family.
The more Himaruya develops his style and his characters, the more deep and meaningful and human they become, and the more these traits become subtle parts of the characters, rather than the defining things that Deen and the Fanom make them out to be.
And Spain isn’t a pedo. He loves kids in an innocent and nurturing way, and I think the idea of raping a child would honestly make him throw up.
